Prime Video has renewed ‘Cross‘ for a third season, with Aldis Hodge (Leverage: Redemption) returning as Alex Cross in the hit thriller based on James Patterson’s iconic character.
The new season will run for eight episodes and comes as ‘Cross’ continues to build momentum globally for Prime Video. According to Amazon MGM Studios, Season 1 drew 40 million viewers worldwide in its first 20 days and became the streamer’s third most-watched premiere of 2025, while also hitting number one in more than 100 countries. Prime Video also says the show landed in Nielsen’s Top 10 original series during the week of the Season 2 premiere.
Created by Ben Watkins, ‘Cross’ follows the brilliant but deeply driven detective Alex Cross, with the series balancing crime procedural thrills against the character’s personal life and emotional weight. The renewal keeps the James Patterson adaptation moving forward as one of Prime Video’s bigger crime drama plays.
“From the beginning, Cross has captivated audiences with its layered characters, pulse-pounding suspense, and emotionally grounded storytelling,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Aldis has delivered a definitive portrayal of Alex Cross, anchoring the series with depth, intelligence, and heart. We’re thrilled to continue this journey with Ben, our collaborators at Paramount Television Studios, and the rest of the incredible cast to bring even more of James Patterson’s iconic world to our global Prime Video audience.”
In Season 2, Alex Cross is pulled into a dangerous case after billionaire Lance Durand receives a death threat tied to the murder of a wealthy playboy. As Cross and FBI Agent Kayla Craig race to protect Durand and uncover the killer, the investigation spirals through a trail of gruesome clues, while John Sampson finds himself dealing with an unexpected connection of his own.
Season 2 stars Aldis Hodge (City On A Hill), Matthew Lillard (Good Girls), Jeanine Mason (Roswell, New Mexico), and Wes Chatham (The Expanse), alongside returning cast Isaiah Mustafa (Shadowhunters), Alona Tal (SEAL Team), Samantha Walkes (Orphan Black: Echoes), Juanita Jennings (The Purge), Caleb Elijah (The Underground Railroad), Melody Hurd (Them), and Johnny Ray Gill (Underground).
For Prime Video, the Season 3 renewal underlines the confidence behind the series, which has now established itself as a solid global franchise title. With Season 2 only just ending, the streamer is clearly keen to keep Alex Cross in the case-solving business for a while yet.
‘Cross‘ Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Prime Video. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
