‘Will Trent’ Renewed For Season 5 At ABC As UK Fans Still Wait On Season 4

by Dave Elliott

ABC is sticking with Will Trent, renewing the crime drama for a fifth season as the series continues to grow into one of the broadcaster’s biggest scripted hits.

Based on the novels by Karin Slaughter, ‘Will Trent’ follows Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, whose difficult childhood in Atlanta’s foster care system shaped the way he sees the world and approaches his cases. That unusual perspective has helped make him one of the GBI’s most effective investigators, and clearly audiences are still very much on board for more.

The series stars Ramón Rodríguez (The Wire, Iron Fist) in the title role alongside Erika Christensen (Parenthood, Ten Days in the Valley), Iantha Richardson (The Undeclared War), Jake McLaughlin (Quantico, Savages), Sonja Sohn (The Wire, Star Trek: Discovery), and Kevin Daniels (Frasier, Will & Grace). And yes, Betty the dog still deserves her own mention too.

The renewal is not exactly a shock. In the US, Season 4 has become the show’s most-watched season so far, with ‘Will Trent’ continuing to build across its run, which is something broadcast dramas rarely manage these days.

For UK viewers, however, there is one rather annoying catch. While ‘Will Trent’ airs on Disney+ in the UK, we’re still waiting for Disney to actually drop Season 4 over here. So whilst US audiences are already deep into the current run and ABC is now handing out a Season 5 renewal, UK fans are still stuck in limbo with no confirmed return date for Season 4 yet.

Behind the scenes, the series is executive produced by Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karine Rosenthal, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Jason Ensler, Ellen Marie Blum, and Ramón Rodríguez. Heldens, Thomsen, and Rosenthal also serve as showrunners, with the drama produced by 20th Television.

Will Trent’ Season 4 (or 5) does not yet have a UK premiere date on Disney+ UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
