‘Welcome To Wrexham’ Season 5 Trailer Lands As Disney+ Sets May Return In The UK

by Dave Elliott

There are underdog stories, and then there is Welcome To Wrexham. What started as a slightly bonkers headline about two Hollywood actors buying a struggling Welsh football club has somehow turned into one of the most uplifting, addictive and flat-out astonishing documentaries on TV, and now it is back for Season 5 this May on Disney+ in the UK.

Even if you are not remotely a football fan, ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ is well worth watching. Yes, there is plenty of drama on the pitch, but the real hook has always been the people around it, the town, the supporters, and the strange, brilliant idea that a club written off by many could become the centre of a genuine fairytale. It is not just a sports documentary. It is a series about belief, momentum, community and what happens when impossible things keep happening anyway.

Since Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Rob Mac (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) took over Wrexham in 2020, the club has pulled off a rise that barely seems believable. They won promotion from the National League to League Two in 2023, went up again to League One in 2024, and then secured a third straight promotion into the Championship in 2025, becoming the first club in the top five tiers of English football to achieve back-to-back-to-back promotions.

Season 5 arrives with the pressure ramped up yet again. Wrexham are now competing in the Championship, a level they have not reached in decades, and the margins are tighter, the stakes are bigger, and the cost of trying to keep climbing only gets higher. The new season follows the club continuing its push towards the Premier League after those three consecutive promotions.

And that is what makes the show so compelling. It would already be a great story if Wrexham had simply become more competitive. Instead, they keep lurching into new chapters that feel too ridiculous to have been scripted. As things stand, they head into the final game of the Championship season battling for a play-off place, which is still an extraordinary position for a club that was in non-league football just a few years ago.

The new trailer promises more of exactly what has made the series such a hit: big emotions, huge pressure, a few nerves, and that constant feeling that this should not really be happening, yet somehow it is. Whether Wrexham eventually reach the Premier League or not, what they have already done is remarkable, and ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ remains one of the easiest recommendations on TV right now.

Welcome To Wrexham’ Season 5 premieres Friday, 15th May 2026 on Disney+ with the first two episodes.
