Paramount+ UK Sets May Premiere For Ozark’s Bill Dubuque New Crime Drama ‘M.I.A.’

by Dave Elliott

If you’ve been missing a tense, morally messy crime drama since ‘Ozark’ wrapped up, Paramount+ UK has something lined up for May. M.I.A., the new drama from Emmy-nominated creator Bill Dubuque (Ozark), is heading to the streamer next month, bringing with it the Florida Keys, Miami nightlife, family crime, and what sounds like a whole lot of bad decisions.

The nine-episode series follows Etta Tiger Jonze, played by Shannon Gisela (Strip Law), a young woman stuck in the Florida Keys and dreaming of something bigger in Miami’s shimmering, dangerous world. When her family’s drug-running business is torn apart by tragedy, that dream turns into something much darker, sending her into Miami’s neon-lit criminal underworld on a journey that could completely reshape who she becomes.

It sounds like one of those crime dramas built on atmosphere as much as action, with the tropical heat, the glossy Miami backdrop, and a central character being pushed into increasingly dangerous territory. Given Dubuque’s track record, there’s every chance ‘M.I.A.’ will lean into the morally messy character work as much as the thriller elements.

Alongside Gisela, the cast includes Cary Elwes (Stranger Things), Danay Garcia (Fear the Walking Dead), Brittany Adebumola (Grand Army), Dylan Jackson (Godfather of Harlem), Alberto Guerra (Griselda), Maurice Compte (Narcos), Gerardo Celasco (The Waterfront), and Marta Milans (White Lines).

Behind the camera, Karen Campbell (Outlander, Dexter, Raised by Wolves) serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer, while Alethea Jones (Spider-Noir, High Potential) executive produces and directs the first two episodes. The directing line-up also includes Gwyneth Horder-Payton, Mairzee Almas, Ben Semanoff, and John Dahl.

One extra note for anyone following US launches too, ‘M.I.A.’ lands the same day on Peacock in the States, so there shouldn’t be any awkward waiting around while spoilers start drifting across social media.

M.I.A.’ premieres Thursday, 7th May 2026 on Paramount+ UK.
