‘Ludwig’ Season 2 Trailer Sees David Mitchell Back Solving Impossible Crimes This Summer

by Dave Elliott

BBC has released a first-look teaser trailer for Ludwig Season 2, with David Mitchell (Peep Show, Back) returning as reclusive puzzle-setter turned accidental detective John “Ludwig” Taylor.

The cosy crime comedy-drama became a huge hit when it launched in 2024, with the BBC calling it the UK’s most-watched new comedy title since 2018. Now, ‘Ludwig’ is back for a second run on BBC iPlayer and BBC One this summer, once again mixing Cambridge-set murder mysteries with a much larger family puzzle still waiting to be solved.

Season 2 will see master puzzle-setter and Crime Scene Consultant John “Ludwig” Taylor continuing to solve “impossible” crimes for the Cambridge Police Authority. However, there is still the small matter of his missing identical twin brother, James, whose disappearance remains the biggest mystery of all.

Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland, A Spy Among Friends) also returns as Lucy, John’s sister-in-law and James’ wife, who is still searching for answers about what happened to her husband. Also back are Dylan Hughes as Henry Betts-Taylor, Dorothy Atkinson (All Creatures Great and Small, Stonehouse) as DCS Carol Shaw, Ralph Ineson (The Witch, The Office) as Chief Constable Ziegler, and Karl Pilkington (Sick of It, Derek) as DI Matt Neville.

They will be joined in Season 2 by new series regulars Mark Bonnar (Guilt, Shetland) and Sian Clifford (Fleabag, Quiz), adding even more intrigue to John’s already complicated double life.

‘Ludwig’ is produced by Big Talk Studios in association with That Mitchell and Webb Company, in co-production with BritBox and ZDF, for the BBC. The series is produced in association with ITV Studios, which also handles international distribution.

The second series is once again written by Mark Brotherhood, with George Kane and Stella Corradi directing. Executive producers are Kenton Allen and Toby Welch for Big Talk Studios, Mark Brotherhood, David Mitchell, Kathryn O’Connor and Chris Sussman, alongside Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye for BritBox, and Claus Wunn and Frank Seyberth for ZDF. Georgie Fallon produces, with Anya Wilson as co-producer.

Ludwig’ Season 2 does not yet have an exact premiere date but will air this summer on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
