Edgewater could be getting another emergency service drama, as Noah Reid (Outer Range) is set to guest star in Season 2 of ‘Sheriff Country’ as a doctor who could go on to headline a new medical spinoff from the ‘Fire Country‘ universe.
According to Deadline, Reid will play Dr Hudson “Hud” Henshaw, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Edgewater Memorial Hospital. The character will appear in one episode of the upcoming season, with Reid’s deal including a series regular option should CBS decide to move forward with the currently untitled medical drama.
The potential series would follow a medical team working in Edgewater, California, with the project informally being referred to as ‘Edge Med’. However, CBS has not officially ordered the spinoff to series at this stage, so Reid’s appearance in ‘Sheriff Country’ is effectively a chance to introduce Hud before the network decides whether to expand the franchise again.
Hud is described as charming, quick-witted, and somewhat rough around the edges. He grew up in the outlaw area of Deadwater as the son of convicted felons, but refused to use his family’s drug money to pay for medical school. Despite being a passionate doctor who is deeply committed to the community that raised him, he is also apparently not averse to getting involved in the occasional bar fight.
His family background should give the writers plenty of potential crossover material with Mickey Fox, played by Morena Baccarin (Homeland, Gotham), whose father Wes is himself an ex con and illegal marijuana grower.
There is also some symmetry in how CBS is approaching the possible new series. ‘Sheriff Country’ itself began with Baccarin guest-starring on ‘Fire Country’ as Mickey before CBS ultimately gave the spinoff a full series order. Reid’s Season 2 appearance looks set to perform a similar job for the medical project, giving audiences a chance to meet Hud before any decision is made about a full series.
The potential spinoff comes from CBS Studios, with Matt Lopez, Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed executive producing.
Reid is probably best known for playing Patrick Brewer in ‘Schitt’s Creek’, where he shared a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series with the rest of the cast. More recently, he starred opposite Josh Brolin and Imogen Poots in ‘Outer Range’, and has appeared in ‘Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat’. He will also star in the upcoming mystery drama ‘Yaga’.
For UK viewers, the timing is rather neat, as Season 1 of ‘Sheriff Country’ arrives on Paramount+ UK this month, while the second season returns to CBS in the US in October.
‘Sheriff Country’ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 13th September 2026 on Paramount+ UK, whilst Season 2 premieres Friday, 9th October 2026 on CBS in the US.
