Outlander Season 3 Premiere Set For September

It’s going to be a bit of a longer wait for Outlander fans this time around, as US network Starz have announced the 3rd season won’t be arriving till September 2017.

The move is due to season 3 being based around Voyager (no, not the Star Trek series), the 3rd book of Diana Gabaldon’s original novels. This has meant moving shooting locations from the comfort of their home in Scotland, to Cape Town in South Africa, where they will shoot the sea voyage scenes. Interesting side note – these are being shot on the sets which were built for Starz other big historical series, Black Sails, which recently came to an end.

“While ‘Droughtlander’ will last just a little longer,” comments Carmi Zlotnik, President of Programming for Starz, “we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety. The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible.”

For those that haven’t caught the series yet, it stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 where she meets Jamie (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior. A passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Season 3 picks up right after the end of season 2, which saw Claire travel back to 1948, but pregnant with Jamie’s baby. The pair are attempting to make a life apart from each other, but are haunted by the memory of their lost love… I’m guessing their separation won’t last for long…

If you’d like to catch up with Outlander, Season 1 and Season 2 are currently available to anyone in the UK with an Amazon Prime subscription.
