The CW Developing Female-led Comedy Based On ‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’

The CW has put in to develop a version of Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’, but with a comedic gender-switching twist…

Written by actress/writer Marisa Coughlan (‘Boston Legal’, ‘Bones’), ‘Dorian’ follows a woman who made a deal with the devil 50 years ago to remain young and has spent the subsequent decades living selfishly and without consequences. As the downsides of eternal youth finally land on her, Dorian is ready to grow up and age gracefully, but, to do so, she’ll have to make amends for half a century of bad behaviour.

Coughlan is set to write and exec produce the series, along with Len Goldstein (‘The Carrie Diaries’, ‘Hart of Dixie’). Warner Bros TV will produce the show.

Marisa Coughlan has mainly been known for her acting work up until this point, having starred in ‘Boston Legal’ as Melissa Hughes, and Ursula in the ‘Super Troopers’ movies. She’s also popped up in shows such as ‘Bones’, and ‘Medium’. She has sold multiple writing projects over the past few years across various networks, but none have yet managed to make it to series. Hopefully for her, ‘Dorian’ will change that.

‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’ has been adapted many times for film before, going back as far as 1910. The last big screen adaptation came in 2009 with Ben Barnes taking the lead role. The character was also used in the Showtime/Sky series ‘Penny Dreadful’ and the 2003 film ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’.

‘Dorian’ is still only in development at the moment, but we’ll let you know if and when we hear more.
