Sky Announces NBCUniversal Movies ‘The Hunt’, ‘The Invisible Man’ & ‘Emma’ Coming To Sky Store From Friday. ‘Trolls’ Sequel In April

As Coronavirus shuts down cinemas across the country, Sky has struck a deal with business sibling NBCUniversal films to make a range of movies available to rent at home through Sky Store, on the same day as the global premieres the broadcaster has announced. They are also making some good tweaks to Sky Go, Sky Talk and Sky Mobile to help out people stuck at home right now.

The film releases will begin this Friday (20th March), with horror movies ‘The Hunt’ and ‘The Invisible Man’ along with and Jane Austen adaptation ‘Emma’ being made available on-demand on Sky Store, following their recent release in cinemas. That will be followed by DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Trolls World Tour’ on Monday, 6th April 2020, the sequel to the ‘Trolls’ blockbuster, and will be the first-time customers have been able to rent NBCUniversal movies as soon as they hit cinemas… in places where cinemas are still open…

The Hunt

In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, GLOW), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank) at the centre of it all.

From Jason Blum, the producer of ‘Get Out’ and ‘The Purge’ series, and Damon Lindelof, creator of the HBO series ‘Watchmen’ and co-creator of the TV series ‘Lost’, comes a timely and provocative new satirical thriller that has already ignited a national conversation. Now, it’s time to decide for yourself.

The Hunt is written by Lindelof and his fellow Watchmen collaborator Nick Cuse and is directed by Craig Zobel (Z for Zachariah, The Leftovers). Blum produces for his Blumhouse Productions alongside Lindelof. The film is executive produced by Zobel, Cuse and Steven R. Molen.

‘The Hunt’ comes to Sky Store from Friday, 20th March 2020.

The Invisible Man

What you can’t see can hurt you. Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss (‘Us’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’) stars in a terrifying modern tale of obsession inspired by Universal’s classic monster character.

Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer, ‘The InBetween’), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge, ‘Straight Outta Compton’) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid, ‘Euphoria’).

But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, ‘The Haunting of Hill House’) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.

Jason Blum, our current-day master of the horror genre, produces The Invisible Man for his Blumhouse Productions. ‘The Invisible Man’ is written, directed and executive produced by Leigh Whannell, one of the original conceivers of the ‘Saw’ franchise who most recently directed ‘Upgrade’ and ‘Insidious: Chapter 3.’

‘The Invisible Man’ comes to Sky Store from Friday, 20th March 2020.

Emma

Jane Austen’s beloved comedy about finding your equal and earning your happy ending, is reimagined in this delicious new film adaptation of ‘Emma’. Handsome, clever, and rich, Emma Woodhouse is a restless queen bee without rivals in her sleepy little town. In this glittering satire of social class and the pain of growing up, Emma must adventure through misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love that has been there all along.

Directed by Autumn de Wilde. Written by Eleanor Catton. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Johnny Flynn, Bill Nighy, Mia Goth, Miranda Hart, Josh O’Connor, Callum Turner, Rupert Graves, Gemma Whelan, Amber Anderson, Tanya Reynolds, and Connor Swindells.

‘Emma’ comes to Sky Store from Friday, 20th March 2020.

Trolls World Tour

Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake return in an all-star sequel to DreamWorks Animation’s 2016 musical hit: Trolls World Tour. In an adventure that will take them well beyond what they’ve known before, Poppy (Kendrick) and Branch (Timberlake) discover that they are but one of six different Troll tribes scattered over six different lands and devoted to six different kinds of music: Funk, Country, Techno, Classical, Pop and Rock. Their world is about to get a lot bigger and a whole lot louder.

A member of hard-rock royalty, Queen Barb (Rachel Bloom), aided by her father King Thrash (Ozzy Osbourne), wants to destroy all other kinds of music to let rock reign supreme. With the fate of the world at stake, Poppy and Branch, along with their friends — Biggie (James Corden), Chenille (Caroline Hjelt), Satin (Aino Jawo), Cooper (Ron Funches) and Guy Diamond (Kunal Nayyar) — set out to visit all the other lands to unify the Trolls in harmony against Barb, who’s looking to upstage them all.

‘Trolls World Tour’ comes to Sky Store from Monday, 6th April 2020.

“We’re working hard at Sky to make sure we continue to look after our customers,” commented Stephen van Rooyen, EVP & CEO, Sky UK and Europe. “We’re also introducing some things to help make life a little easier for anyone at home trying to work, stay connected to loved ones, or keep the family entertained.”

Additional Sky Changes

In addition to the speedy release of films, Sky is also doing a few extra things to make the TV experience even better and making sure the Broadband, Talk and Mobile services are as reliable as they can possibly be in these trying times. These steps include:

  • Sky Go Extra will be available to all customers for free, so busy homes will have access to Sky TV on three screens at the same time.
  • Calls to UK landlines at any time of day will be free for existing Sky Talk customers from this weekend to the end of April.
  • All Sky Mobile customers will get a 10GB data boost into their Piggybanks, free of charge. This can be shared across all the SIMs on the account.
  • Call centres and engineers will prioritise the needs of existing customers to ensure their service keeps running smoothly.
  • While we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will eventually go ahead, if you wish to pause your sports subscription you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period. Meanwhile, we continue to provide high-quality content across all of our 11 sports channels
  • The Broadband, Talk and Mobile networks have been designed to handle high traffic peaks at all times of the day and night, and Sky’s network engineers are working hard to ensure they are tested, monitored and improved 24/7.
  • YouTube kids and Disney+ will be coming to Sky Q in the coming weeks, to give families even more entertainment choices.
