‘Line Of Duty’ Returns To Filming For Season 6

Fans of AC-12 rejoice. Today, the BBC has announced Line Of Duty has resumed filming on Season 6 of the crime drama, which is due to premiere in 2021.

The next instalment of the hit police thriller will feature a brand new case as the team investigate Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, played by Kelly Macdonald (‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Trainspotting’), the senior investigating officer of an unsolved murder, whose unconventional conduct raises suspicions at AC-12.

The 6th Season will see the return of series regulars, Martin Compston (pictured above) as D.S. Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure as D.C. Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar as Superintendent Ted Hastings. They are joined by ‘Line Of Duty’ newcomers Shalom Brune-Franklin (‘Cursed’, ‘Our Girl’), Perry Fitzpatrick (‘Suspects’, ‘Cursed’), Andi Osho (‘Curfew’, ‘I May Destroy You’) and Prasanna Puwanarajah (‘Defending the Guilty’, ‘Doctor Foster’, ‘Patrick Melrose’).

“We know Line of Duty fans are desperate for series six and we hope we can get it on air as soon as possible,” commented Line of Duty showrunner, Jed Mercurio. “Thanks so much for your patience in these difficult times.”

As with everything trying to begin filming at the moment, things have been a little different for the cast on their return, although it doesn’t seem to have dampened the main trio’s spirits! “It’s been a long few months and it will be a different way of working from when we stopped, but I’m delighted to be back on the case with the Line Of Duty team!” said star Martin Compston. Vicky McClure stated “Been sitting on these incredible scripts for some time now, so I’m really looking forward to getting back to it and seeing the Line Of Duty family,” with Adrian Dunbar adding “Even with the imposition of COVID restrictions I can’t hide my excitement at getting the team back together. So many people wondering… what happens next?”

The ‘Line Of Duty’ production team has been working hard, together with independent health and safety consultants, in full consultation with industry partners, and in accordance with all current government guidelines on Covid-19, to make sure they adhere to comprehensive protocols, and that the new series is produced in a safe and responsible manner. The series was originally planned to air later in 2020, but that date was pushed following the production shutdown caused by the global pandemic.

“It’s been almost six months since we stopped shooting, but following our implementation of all the industry COVID protocols, we’re delighted to be able to resume filming series six safely,” commented Simon Heath, Executive Producer for World Productions.

‘Line Of Duty’ is written and created by Jed Mercurio, and made for BBC One by World Productions. The new series will be directed by Daniel Nettheim, Gareth Bryn, and Jennie Darnell, and the producer is Ken Horn. Executive producers are Jed Mercurio, Simon Heath for World Productions, and Tommy Bulfin for BBC One. International distribution of the sixth series of Line Of Duty is handled by ITV Studios.

Line Of Duty‘ Season 6 will premiere on BBC One in 2021. For those of you wanting to refresh your memory or catch up on the series, Seasons 1-5 are available both on BBC iPlayer and Netflix UK.
