‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Station 19’ & ‘9-1-1’ Move From Sky To Disney+ In The UK

Various Disney shows are on the move in the UK as the “mouse house” takes back its catalogue of procedural drama from Sky. Grey’s Anatomy‘ Season 19, Station 19‘ Season 6, and 9-1-1‘ Season 6 will move from Sky Witness to premiere future seasons on Disney+ UK.

Grey’s Anatomy‘, the USA’s longest-running primetime medical drama, follows the staff of Grey Sloan as they encounter more hurdles in their professional and personal lives. In the upcoming season, the record-breaking Shondaland franchise will explore the ever-expanding world of modern medicine through the eyes of beloved returning and new characters.

Season 19 see Ellen Pompeo return as Meredith Grey, however, she is taking a reduced role this year and will only appear in eight episodes. The series will also see five new faces in the cast, as Harry Shum Jr., Adelaide Kane, Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, and Midori Francis join the drama as new interns.

The series also stars Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Kim Raver as Teddy Altman, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce, Chris Carmack as Atticus “Link” Lincoln, Jake Borelli as Levi Schmitt, Richard Flood as Cormac Hayes and Anthony Hill as Winston Ndugu.

‘Station 19’ follows a group of heroic Seattle firefighters as they put their lives and hearts on the line. In Seattle, all firefighters are also trained EMTs and the crew at Station 19 is second to none. Working in 24-hour shifts, these professionals spend so much time together that they build relationships unlike any others.

The drama stars Jaina Lee Ortiz, Jason George, Grey Damon, Barrett Doss, Jay Hayden, Boris Kodjoe, Stefania Spampinato, Carlos Miranda, Pat Healy, Josh Randall and Merle Dandridge.

‘9-1-1’ explores the high-pressure experiences of first responders – including police officers, firefighters and dispatchers – who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives. The show draws from real-life, high-pressure experiences of first responders who regularly face heart-stopping situations that are often unpredictable, intense and uplifting at the same time.

Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, Angela Bassett as Athena Grant Nash, Corinne Massiah as May Grant, Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley, John Harlan Kim as Albert Han, Kenneth Choi as Howard “Chimney” Han, Marcanthonee Jon Reis as Harry Grantl, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Peter Krause as Robert “Bobby” Nash, Rockmond Dunbar as Michael Grant and Ryan Guzman as Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz.

The move from Sky to Disney+ is the latest in broadcaster changes for Disney-made dramas in the UK. Earlier this year we saw ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ move from Sky Witness to Disney+ for its latest season, and now the main ‘9-1-1’ series follows suit. ‘The Resident’ moved over to Disney+ from Season 5 back in January, and will now be joined on the streaming service by fellow medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ and firefighter spin-off ‘Station 19’.

We don’t yet have exact premiere dates for any of these shows, but ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ Season 19 is said to be premiering on Disney+ UK in Autumn 2022, and presumably ‘Station 19‘ Season 6 will air alongside it. ‘9-1-1‘ Season 6 could also drop then but we’ll let you know when we have some confirmation. If you want to keep track of these or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.

I’m getting fed up of all these big shows moving to Disney+. I’ve been a fan of so many since the very start, I’ve now missed out on the final season of The Walking Dead and all three of these shows are ones I’ve watched from the start. Grey’s is one of my favourite shows of all time. I don’t know how I’m going to deal with not being able to watch these. I’m still struggling with no Holby City!

Do people in charge of these shows not realise that not everyone can afford these additional services?

I may be one of the few that’s actually happy about this decision. Streaming services, particularly Disney+, are watched much more in my house, than normal TV channels now.
Although, it’s interesting to see Greys Anatomy season 19 and Station 19 season 6 are predicted to land on Disney+ in autumn, but yet the previous seasons (season 18 of GA and season 5 of S19) are not yet available to stream on Disney, with no official date given for the release.
So will we get those seasons too anytime soon?

I kinda come to a point where some of these shows, I want to watch the new episodes but the hindrance is them being tied to Sky or other TV Networks on top of annoying adverts in the UK. Disney+ UK needs to do the same approach with the walking dead shows like Fear The Walking Dead, Tales of The Walking Dead, and the announced TWD spinoff shows and NCIS shows like NCIS LA and New Orleans as well.

I think before they release the new episodes for Greys Anatomy they’ll drop the whole season 18 of the show on Disney+ and realese a couple of new episodes of season 19 for Grey’s Anatomy. It’s the same approach they did for NCIS main show earlier in the year. That has proven to be a very good approach.

Yes I agree, it is very frustrating keeping up with when the new seasons are airing on different channels/streaming services etc, and once shows air on Sky, they seem to take a very long time to reach any other platforms.

And yes, that is what I’m hoping for regarding seasons 18/19 on Disney+ UK, but still unsure as season 19 is being released October 6th in the USA. So if we follow a similar schedule, give or take a few weeks, we could possibly have season 19 mid/end of October which is only next month. Just thought by now we would have some sort of info on when to expect season 18, or maybe it’s just me being impatient !

Like you said with NCIS, I do believe this is the best approach going forward, regarding streaming new seasons. Makes it so much easier to stream and follow on to the next season.

I’m flipping fuming. Every single show I’ve watch so far has gone to Disney. Goodness knows why I carry on with Sky. Sick of starting a show then it jumps to a streaming site after watching for years. Time to make changes I think

Maybe ditch Sky TV and just use Now TV (also a Sky service anyway) for a month or two for Sky exclusive stuff. Traditional pay TV services like Sky TV, Virgin TV, BT TV etc are outdated these days and increasingly more TV shows will move to streaming services, we’re only in the early days of this.

Haven’t really needed Sky TV for around about a decade now since Now TV launched with access to pay TV channels including Sky-branded channels without needing a satellite dish. Now TV also do good discounts sometimes for viewers who cancel or in the offers section on their website.

In my case I don’t even really need Now TV much these days as many of the shows I watch have gone to other streaming services now. If you’re not a big fan of BBC shows either you could cancel your TV licence and only use on-demand streaming services (except BBC iPlayer or live as broadcast content) for an extra saving, as on-demand streaming services other than BBC iPlayer don’t legally require one.

Will Station 19 eventually be shown on Sky Witness after premiering on Disney + or is it only going to be on Disney +?

Only on Disney+ (at least for now as far as we know).
