‘Ackley Bridge’ Cancelled After 5 Seasons

School is out permanently for Ackley Bridge‘, as Channel 4 announces there will be no 6th Season.

Inspired by real-life Lancashire and Yorkshire schools established to integrate the white and Asian communities, the series followed the pupils at ‘Ackley Bridge’ as they tackled real-life situations and issues in an irreverent, insightful way, with humour and punchy, big-hearted stories.

“We’re immensely proud of Ackley Bridge, which over the last five series has received praise for the way in which it has tackled real-life situations and issues in an irreverent and insightful way,” commented the broadcaster in a statement. “However, Channel 4 has a responsibility to continuously look for new and innovative ideas and we have made the difficult decision to not greenlight another series. We’d like to thank The Forge, the wonderful cast and all those involved in the show’s success over the years and we look forward to working with them again on future projects.”

The series starred Ryan Dean, Robyn Cara, Yasmin Al Khudhairi, Megan Morgan, and Adam Little as the teens, with Rob James Collier, George Potts, Laila Zaidi, Sunetra Sarker and Charlie Hardwick as the adults.

‘Ackley Bridge’ was produced by The Forge and executive produced by George Ormond (National Treasure, Kiri), George Faber (Help, National Treasure, Shameless) with lead writers and Executive Producers Suhayla El Bushra (Hollyoaks, Becoming Elizabeth) and Kim Revill (EastEnders, Holby City).

All 5 Seasons of ‘Ackley Bridge‘ can be found on All 4.
