Paramount+ today announced that the revival series of Frasier, starring and executive produced by Kelsey Grammer, starts production this week. Shooting in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles, the new series follows Frasier Crane (Grammer) in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston, Mass., with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfil. Frasier has re-entered the building!

Grammer will not be on his own when he returns but Frasier will be surrounded by new faces in the new city:

Jack Cutmore-Scott (‘Deception’, ‘Tenet’) joins the show as Freddy Crane, Frasier’s son, a nuanced combination of his father and grandfather. Years ago, Freddy rejected following in his father’s footsteps – dropping out of college to become a fireman – and he’s never looked back until now, when recent troubles have left him with no one to turn to in his life. If they can overcome past differences, Freddy and Frasier might finally have a chance to repair old wounds.

Nicholas Lyndhurst (‘Only Fools & Horses’, ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’) plays Alan Cornwall, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor. British, boozy and larger than life, Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier’s – if only he ever felt like using it. Alan’s mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier’s thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life.

Toks Olagundoye (‘The Neighbors’, ‘Castle’) is Alan’s colleague and head of the university psychology department, Olivia. She projects confidence, warmth, and professionalism – in other words, the opposite of how completely unglued she feels on the inside. Olivia must contend daily with her colleague Alan who resents Olivia’s seniority over him. The two of them disagree on just about everything, but they both admire Frasier – and each hopes to use him to further their own aims.

Jess Salguerio (‘Y: The Last Man’) portrays Eve. Spontaneous, outgoing and bursting with creative energy whether it was asked for or not, Freddy’s roommate is a breath of fresh air. With an innate ability to connect with both Frasier and Freddy, Eve is a critical bridge between father and son as they attempt to reconcile.

Lastly, newcomer Anders Keith plays Frasier’s nephew, David. An awkward college freshman with a penchant for off-kilter observations, David has Niles’ intelligence, Daphne’s smile, and neither of their polish. David’s unearned confidence may confuse some, but Frasier has a fondness for his nephew’s earnest enthusiasm.

If you’re wondering why Niles is not involved in the revival, actor David Hyde Pierce decided that, much as he loved playing the character, he didn’t want to revisit it for the new series. The other missing face is of course Frasier’s father Martin played John Mahoney, who sadly passed away in 2018.

The first two episodes of the new series will be directed by the legendary director and co-creator/EP of ‘Cheers’, James Burrows. Burrows has been the recipient of 10 Emmys and five Directors Guild of America Awards, where he also holds the honour of being the most nominated director in the history of television. His other television work also includes hit series ‘Will & Grace’, the original ‘Frasier’, ‘Friends’, ‘Taxi’ and many more.

‘Frasier’ comes from writers Chris Harris (‘How I Met Your Mother’) and Joe Cristalli (‘Life In Pieces’), who executive produce with Kelsey Grammer, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Grammer’s Grammnet NH Productions.

The new series of ‘Frasier‘ begins production this week, so we don’t have an air date yet, however, it will premiere on Paramount+ in the UK and USA. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
