TV Premiere Highlights Coming To Disney+ UK In April 2023

April on Disney+ is bringing a pile of new and returning shows from across their brands, along with some new Original series too. There are a number of comedies back for second seasons, a movie-to-tv action series, documentaries, and boxsets, along with brand-new dramas from around the world. Here are the highlights from Disney+ UK in April 2023.

Disney+ Originals & UK Exclusive April 2023 Highlights

Brooke Shields: Pretty Baby – 3rd April 2023 (Documentary)

The two-part documentary is a galvanizing look at actor, model and icon Brooke Shields as she transforms from a sexualized young girl to a woman discovering her power. Holding a mirror up to a society that objectifies women and girls, her story shows the perils and triumphs of gaining agency in a hostile world.

The Good Mothers – 5th April 2023 (Series Boxset)

Based on true events, ‘The Good Mothers’ tells the story of Denise, daughter of Lea Garofalo, Maria Concetta Cacciola and Giuseppina Pesce – three women who dared to defy the ‘Ndrangheta mafia they were born into. We also meet prosecutor Anna Colace who, having just arrived in Calabria, has an intuition: to be able to defeat the ‘Ndrangheta clans, you need to focus on the women. It is a strategy that brings with it great risk – after all, The ‘Ndrangheta is famous and feared for its iron fist and insidious power. This new series follows the three women as they collaborate with the authorities, attempting to free themselves from the criminal power once and for all.

Grown-ish, Season 5, Part 2 – 5th April 2023 (Series)

As we return for the second half of Season 5, the series follows Andre Johnson Jr., aka Junior, as he finishes his first year at Cal U, transitioning from Zoey’s little brother to big man on campus. The series stars Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Trevor Jackson, Diggy Simmons and Daniella Perkins.

Tiny Beautiful Things – 7th April 2023 (Series Boxset)

Based on Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling book, ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’ is about a woman whose marriage is on its last legs; whose daughter barely talks to her; and whose writing career is non-existent. So when a friend suggests taking over an advice column, Clare thinks she’s the last person for the job…when she may actually be the most qualified.

Single Drunk Female, Season 2 – 12th April 2023 (Series Boxset)

With a year and a half of sobriety under her belt, Samantha Fink finally feels like she has a life worth celebrating. However, Sam quickly learns that sometimes life has other plans for her. Follow along as she figures out how to effect change where she can, sit in her discomfort when she can’t, and maybe even enjoy the ride

How I Met Your Father, Season 2, Part 1 – 19th April 2023 (Series Boxset)

In the near future, Sophie continues to tell her son the story of how she met his father, in the process transporting us back to the present for Season 2. Follow along as Sophie and her close-knit group of friends keep trying to figure out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options. There are 20 episodes in season two. This will be a boxset of the first 11 episodes.

True Lies, Season 1 – 19th April 2023 (Series)

Inspired by James Cameron’s hit action-comedy film of the same name, the series follows Harry (Steve Howey), a first-class international spy for U.S. intelligence agency Omega Sector, and his wife, Helen (Ginger Gonzaga), a language professor bored with her daily routine, who makes the shocking discovery that her seemingly ordinary husband is leading an extraordinary double life. With the secret out, Omega recruits Helen, who impresses everyone with her formidable skills (thanks to Tae Bo and yoga), and she joins Harry and his team of top-notch operatives, embarking on covert missions around the globe and an exhilarating life of danger and adventure … all while keeping their adventures a secret from their three teenage children. The renewed bond between them adds much-needed sizzle to the Taskers’ emotionally distant marriage and upends the top-secret world of Omega Sector. But, as Harry says, if you’re going to save the world, you might as well do it for the ones you love.

Will Trent, Season 1 – 26th April 2023 (Weekly Series)

Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. But now, determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the GBI. Opens with a 2 episode premiere.

Sam – A Saxon – 26th April 2023 (Series)

A new German original series for Disney+, based on the incredible true story of Samuel Meffire, East Germany’s first Black policeman. The gripping series follows Sam on his relentless search for home and his fight for justice against an over-powerful system. The series will reveal his childhood as an outsider, shaped by the murder of his father, his meteoric rise as a symbolic figure and the media sensation of a new Germany; to Sam’s deep fall from grace and his escape as state enemy number one.

Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, Season 1 – 26th April 2023 (Series)

Set during The High Republic era, the animated series follows Jedi younglings as they study the ways of the Force, explore the galaxy, help citizens and creatures in need, and learn valuable skills needed to become Jedi along the way.

Peter Pan and Wendy – 28th April 2023 (Film)

Directed by David Lowery, ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ follows Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, who meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. Alongside her brothers and a tiny fairy called Tinker Bell, Wendy travels with Peter to the magical world of Neverland. There, she encounters an evil pirate named Captain Hook, and embarks on a thrilling and dangerous adventure that will change her life forever.

Other Notable Additions

Outside of the various premieres above, a few older tv shows are also dropping onto the service this month. The brilliant comedy ‘Life In Pieces’ streams from 26th April, along with all 8 seasons of Tim Allen’s ‘Home Improvements’ from the 19th April.
