Dick Wolf will be a happy pup this evening as NBC renews all six of his big franchise procedural shows. That means ‘Chicago Med‘, ‘Chicago Fire‘ and ‘Chicago P.D.‘ will all be back for new seasons, along with ‘Law & Order‘, ‘Law & Order: SVU‘ and ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime‘.
The news that all the shows will get new seasons is not exactly a surprise, given the Chicago series are some of the top-rated on the US network, with NBC’s Wednesday night ‘One Chicago’ block dominating the ratings across all network broadcasters. The ‘Law & Order’ series also land well, with SVU being the top-ranked drama across all platforms (live & delayed viewing) over a 35 day period. All of the shows are produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment.
“We understand the emotional connection our audience has with these characters and we can’t wait to bring more of their stories to the forefront next season,” commented Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal and Streaming. “A huge thank you to Dick and his amazing team who are the masters of producing incredibly compelling television week after week.”
Not only is Dick Wolf the mastermind behind the ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Chicago’ franchises for NBC, but he is also behind the ‘FBI’ franchise at CBS, which has already been renewed for new seasons at that network.
“I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC,” said exec producer Wolf. “All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers and writers. I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”
In the UK, ‘Chicago Med‘, ‘Chicago Fire‘ and ‘Chicago P.D.‘ all air on Sky Witness, alongside ‘Law & Order: SVU‘ and ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime‘… Oddly missing still is the revived ‘Law & Order‘ series, which is now on the second season of the revival… This is going to be problematic moving forward as they are beginning to add in crossovers between all three shows. Hopefully, we get some news on that soon…
If you want to keep track of any of the TV shows mentioned in this article, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
