‘Pulse’: Netflix Orders Their First Medical Procedural From Zoe Robyn & Carlton Cuse With Justina Machado Cast

Justina Machado cast as series regular

In an interesting move for Netflix, the streaming giant has ordered Pulse, its first medical procedural drama, from Zoe Robyn and Carlton Cuse, with Justina Machado cast as a series regular.

The series follows the staff of Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center as they navigate various medical emergencies. One of the leading roles is young ER doc Dani Simms (as yet uncast), who is unexpectedly promoted to Chief Resident amidst the fallout of her own provocative romantic relationship.

The one bit of casting we do have is Justina Machado (‘Jane the Virgin’, ‘Three Rivers’, ‘Six Feet Under’) who plays “Natalie Cruz,” a brilliant and politically-savvy doctor, who oversees both administration and medicine in her role as the Chair of Surgery and Emergency Medicine.

The drama is created by Zoe Robyn, who previously served as a writer on shows such as ‘The Equalizer’ and ‘Hawaii Five-0’, however, this is her first series of her own. She will also exec produce and co-showrun the drama alongside veteran Carlton Cuse, whose previous work includes ‘Lost’, ‘Locke & Key’, ‘Jack Ryan’, ‘Bates Motel’ (and a lot more!)

Kate Dennis (The Handmaid’s Tale, New Amsterdam) will serve as Director and Executive Producer on Episodes 101 and 102. Bradley Gardner, Emma Forman and Michael Klick also exec produce. Production begins in March in Albuquerque.

Pulse‘ Season 1 does not have a premiere date but will air on Netflix worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
