ITV Renews ‘Grace’ For Season 6 Before Season 5 Airs This Spring

by Dave Elliott

ITV have already renewed Grace for a 6th Season before Season 5 airs this Spring, with John Simm and Richie Campbell both set to return in the crime drama.

John Simm will reprise his role as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace for four standalone films set in the familiar surroundings of Brighton, with filming beginning during the summer of 2025. Starring alongside John will be Richie Campbell (Top Boy, Stephen) who plays DS Glenn Branson, Zoë Tapper (Liar) as Cleo Morey, Laura Elphinstone (Chernobyl) as DS Bella Moy, and Brad Morrison (Outlander) as DC Nick Nicholl.

The series is based on the best-selling novels written by globally renowned author Peter James. Over 21 million copies of the Grace novels have been sold to date with translations into 38 different languages.

“It’s always exciting to return to Grace and the Brighton that Peter’s brilliant stories evoke,” said ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill, and Drama Commissioner, Huw Kennair Jones, who commissioned the drama. “That, coupled with the fantastic cast and crew who bring it all to life with such expertise means we’re in for another great series for the ITV and ITVX audience.”

The upcoming 5th Season, which will air this Summer on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player, features another four feature-length films. These will be based on the novels Dead If You Don’tDead At First SightNeed You Dead and Find Them Dead.

“Having just delivered series five it’s fantastic to know we are coming back for a 6th series. The recommission is testament to the amazing work the cast and crew do,” said Executive Producer Phil Hunter. “It’s such a joy to work with such a talented bunch and I’m thrilled we are back in Brighton filming four more episodes this summer.”

ITV hasn’t said which books will be adapted for Season 6, however, the next 4 novels in the book series are Left You Dead, Picture You Dead, Stop Them Dead, and One of Us is Dead, so we would assume those will be the basis of the new episodes. There is also the 2021 short story Wish You Were Dead, which could possibly be adapted instead, saving One of Us is Dead for a potential 7th Season. At that point, they run out of books, however, Peter is still writing them, with a new Grace novel due in October 2025. However, that only leaves them with, at most, two books to work with, so there may be a bit of a longer wait if they do want to return for a full 4-episode Season 7, which James himself seems keen to do. Or, they could just do one or two films next year, and then just do a new film as and when Peter writes another book.

“I have been blessed with the most brilliant cast an author could wish for, and the most communicative and creative production team,” said Peter James. “I’m inundated, daily, with emails from the public both in the UK and around the world telling me how much the series is loved, and that is a true testament to the sheer quality of the episodes. I hope there will be many more series to come – they are the best adaptations of my work that I’ve ever experienced. Working with ITV and all involved is a total and ongoing joy.”

‘Grace’ is a co-production between Tall Story Pictures, part of ITV Studios, and Vaudeville Productions. The Executive Producers are Phil Hunter for Tall Story Pictures, and Andrew O’Connor and Paul Sandler for Vaudeville Productions, Kiaran Murray- Smith, Peter James and John Simm. Kiaran Murray-Smith returns as Series Producer, Matthew Hamilton will co-produce the series.

Grace‘ Season 5 does not have an exact premiere date but will air in Spring 2025 on ITV, STV, ITVX and STV Player. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
