Netflix has announced the cast for ‘Legends‘, a new crime drama, inspired by one of the most remarkable criminal investigations ever conducted, the story follows a group of British Customs employees sent undercover to infiltrate some of the country’s most dangerous criminal drug gangs.
In the early 1990s, Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise was losing its battle with illegal drug smuggling across Britain’s borders. The solution was extraordinary. In a top-secret operation, a small team of Customs employees were sent undercover. Their task – to infiltrate Britain’s most dangerous drug gangs.
But these were not trained spies. They were normal men and women, plucked from ordinary lives around the UK, put through a basic training regime and tasked with building new identities in the criminal underworld. These identities were called Legends.
The drama is set to star (pictured above) Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Strike), Steve Coogan (Philomena, The Reckoning), Charlotte Ritchie (YOU, Ghosts), Hayley Squires (Beau Is Afraid, I, Daniel Blake), Aml Ameen (A Man in Full, Rustin), Jasmine Blackborow (The Gentlemen, Marie Antoinette), Douglas Hodge (G20, Joker), Tom Hughes (The English, Victoria), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow, Great Expectations) and Gerald Kyd (The Assassin, Love Rat). All images are provided by Netflix.
The six-episode series is written and created by Scottish author, television writer and journalist Neil Forsyth, who is no stranger to adapting odd stories about UK crime, having also created the hugely successful BBC drama ‘The Gold‘ about the Brink’s-Mat robbery. He also created the beloved Scottish BBC drama ‘Guilt‘.
Brady Hood (Top Boy, Great Expectations) directs the first four episodes, with Julian Holmes (Reacher, The Boys) directing episodes five and six. The exec producers are Ben Farrell (The Gold, Feel Good) & Neil Forsyth for Tannadice, and Richard Bradley for Lion Television, with Charlie Leech (The Gold, Lovesick) as series producer. Tannadice Pictures is the production company.
‘Legends‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Netflix worldwide. If you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
