Former SNL writers Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, the brilliantly twisted minds behind I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, are back with a new half-hour series that blends absurd comedy with paranoid mystery. Their latest creation, ‘The Chair Company’, follows William Ronald “Ron” Trosper (played by Robinson), whose life takes a nosedive after an embarrassing incident at work. What begins as a small personal disaster spirals into a strange and far-reaching conspiracy, as Ron stumbles across clues, coincidences, and cover-ups that may or may not actually exist.
The show’s cast includes Lake Bell (Harley Quinn), Sophia Lillis (It), Will Price (The Equalizer 3), and Lou Diamond Phillips (Prodigal Son), who all find themselves tangled in Ron’s increasingly bizarre world. Robinson’s familiar awkward charm meets the uneasy tension of corporate thriller territory, creating a series that feels as if The Office wandered into Twin Peaks and forgot how to leave.
Behind the camera, Robinson and Kanin are joined by Adam McKay and Todd Schulman of HyperObject Industries, alongside Andrew DeYoung and Igor Srubshchik. DeYoung, known for Dave and Robinson’s 2024 film Friendship, directs several episodes, while Aaron Schimberg (Chained for Life) also takes a turn behind the lens. The creative team reportedly adopted a deliberately loose approach to filming, often shooting multiple versions of scenes to keep the comedy unpredictable and spontaneous, a technique that fits Robinson’s knack for awkward improvisation and uncomfortable escalation.
In the US, The Chair Company premieres Sunday, 12th October 2025 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with new episodes released weekly on HBO Max until the season finale on Sunday, 30th November. UK viewers won’t have to wait long, as the series lands on Sky Comedy the following night, Monday, 13th October at 10pm, with an additional airing at 3am for anyone who prefers their existential laughter served after midnight.
Early buzz from US critics hints that The Chair Company delivers exactly the kind of strange brilliance fans expect from Robinson. Sharp, uncomfortable, and full of moments that feel like déjà vu from a bad dream. IndieWire has already called it one of the most anticipated HBO comedies of 2025, promising “funny but kind of unsettling” storytelling that blurs the line between absurdism and unease.
