Marvel has finally lifted the curtain on ‘Wonder Man‘, dropping a teaser that proves even the MCU knows we’re all a bit tired of superheroes. It leans directly into that fatigue with a wink and a lot of self-aware humour.
Created by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Andrew Guest (Hawkeye), the eight-episode miniseries stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Aquaman) as Simon Williams, a struggling actor and stuntman who accidentally gains real superpowers while playing a superhero on screen. It has been described as a “love letter to acting,” and the teaser makes it clear we’re in for a sharp bit of MCU satire.
The trailer opens with the gloriously eccentric Zlatko Buric as fictional director Von Kovak, who insists his Wonder Man reboot will “re-imagine the superhero genre” and cure “superhero fatigue.” Viewers are treated to clips from an in-universe 1970s Wonder Man movie, complete with clashing green-and-red spandex, bad laser props and alien costumes that look borrowed from an old sci-fi serial. It’s as deliberately ridiculous as it sounds.
We get quick glimpses of Ben Kingsley returning as the ever-hapless Trevor Slattery, last seen in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, now back on a film set and clearly enjoying himself. Also appearing are Demetrius Grosse (Fear the Walking Dead) as Simon’s brother Eric (better known to comic fans as Grim Reaper), Ed Harris (Westworld) as Simon’s agent Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed (Succession) as a Department of Damage Control official. Josh Gad, Lauren Glazier, Byron Bowers, Bechir Sylvain and Manny McCord round out the cast in undisclosed roles.
For those new to the character, Wonder Man first appeared in 1964, created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee during Marvel’s Silver Age. He began as a villain working against the Avengers before redeeming himself and joining their ranks. His power to die and return again, thanks to his ionic energy, has made him one of Marvel’s more bizarre and enduring heroes. The series looks set to use that idea as a comment on the superhero genre itself, where nothing ever truly stays dead.
With the MCU building toward Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars in 2026 and 2027, ‘Wonder Man’ could serve as both a bridge and a breather from the ongoing multiverse mayhem. Judging by the teaser, it might also be one of Marvel’s smartest and strangest entries in years.
‘Wonder Man‘ premieres in January 2026 on Disney+. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
