Warner Bros. Animation Announces Epic Multi-Part Adaptation of Classic Batman Saga ‘Knightfall’

The Dark Knight is heading back to his breaking point. Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have officially announced ‘Batman: Knightfall’, a sweeping multi-chapter animated adaptation of one of the most legendary comic arcs in the Caped Crusader’s history. The news dropped during New York Comic Con at the studio’s panel The Art Knight: Batman in Animation, which explored the creative legacy of the character on screen.

Currently in production, ‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall’ will kick off in 2026, retelling the brutal story that first introduced Bane, the venom-fueled mastermind who broke the Bat both physically and psychologically.

Set during one of Batman’s darkest chapters, the new animated feature sees Bane unleashing Gotham’s entire Rogues Gallery from Arkham Asylum, forcing Bruce Wayne to confront a relentless gauntlet of enemies while suffering from exhaustion and burnout. It is a test that ultimately pushes him to his limits, both as a man and as a symbol.

Directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams, the film’s production team also includes Supervising Producer Rick Morales, Producers Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau, with Sam Register and Michael Uslan serving as Executive Producers.

The adaptation draws from the 1993 to 1994 DC Comics trilogy Knightfall, Knightquest, and KnightsEnd, a saga that redefined Batman for a generation. In the comics, Bane cripples Bruce Wayne, paving the way for Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael) to take up the mantle. However, Valley’s increasingly violent methods tarnish Batman’s reputation, leaving Bruce to rebuild not only his body but also his legacy and the public’s trust. The aftermath reshaped Gotham’s future, inspiring the creation of the modern “Batman Family” and exploring the dangers of isolation in the fight against crime.

Bane, first introduced in Knightfall, went on to become one of Batman’s most formidable and enduring adversaries, from comics to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. It was an amazing movie and a great version of Bane, despite Chris Nolan and Tom Hardy’s… interesting… choice of accent for the checks notes Latin American character. His mix of intellect, strategy, and brute strength cemented him as a fan-favourite villain and a crucial figure in the Dark Knight mythos.

Warner Bros. Animation has a strong history with DC adaptations, and Knightfall looks set to join the studio’s pantheon of ambitious animated projects, sitting alongside Batman: Caped Crusader, My Adventures with Superman, Creature Commandos, and Teen Titans Go!.

Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall’ arrives in 2026 from Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
