Sky Brings CBS Drama ‘Watson’ To The UK

by Dave Elliott

Sky has picked up the CBS drama Watson, bringing the reimagined take on the world’s most famous detective companion to UK screens on Sky and NOW.

Set six months after the death of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson, played by Morris Chestnut (The Resident, Rosewood), has returned to medicine as the head of a clinic specialising in rare disorders. But Holmes’ shadow still looms large. When new mysteries begin to unfold, Watson finds himself pulled back into a dangerous game, as he faces a new foe in Moriarty and a world still haunted by his friend’s legacy.

Described as a medical drama with a sharp investigative twist, ‘Watson’ explores what happens when one of literature’s greatest sidekicks becomes the leading man, trading criminal clues for medical conundrums. It’s part medical procedural, part psychological thriller, and part reinvention of a character who has fascinated audiences for over a century.

The show premiered in the US earlier this year and has already been renewed for a second season. Season one runs for 13 episodes and was filmed in Vancouver, with the story set in Pittsburgh. Critics described it as a blend of House and Sherlock, combining complex cases with moral questions about truth, loyalty and identity.

Alongside Morris Chestnut, the cast features Eve Harlow (The Night Agent), Peter Mark Kendall (The Americans), Ritchie Coster (Happy!), Inga Schlingmann (So Help Me Todd), and Rochelle Aytes (S.W.A.T.). Together, they form the team at the Holmes Clinic for Diagnostic Medicine — a place where science meets intuition, and every patient could hold the key to another mystery.

Behind the camera, Craig Sweeny (Elementary) created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer, bringing his previous experience in the Holmes universe to this new take. Additional executive producers include Morris Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD, Aaron Kaplan for Kapital Entertainment, and Brian Morewitz. Larry Teng also directed the first two episodes, setting the tone for the show’s moody, character-driven world.

While early US reviews were mixed, ‘Watson’ has been praised for its ambition and the strength of Chestnut’s performance, grounding the story in emotional realism. The decision to focus on Watson rather than Holmes allows the show to explore grief, guilt, and the burden of legacy, all while keeping the spirit of deduction alive in a new form.

For UK viewers, ‘Watson’ promises something refreshingly different: a medical mystery series rooted in one of fiction’s most enduring mythologies. If House was Sherlock Holmes with a stethoscope, ‘Watson’ turns the idea on its head, and gives the good doctor the case files of his own life.

Watson’ Season 1 does not yet have a specific premiere date but will air on Sky and NOW in the UK in November 2025. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
