‘Dig’ has added some serious transatlantic star power, with Hugh Laurie joining Amy Poehler in Peacock’s upcoming comedy series, reuniting Poehler with her Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur.
The series is based on Kate Myers’ bestselling novel Excavation and centres on four women working at an archaeological dig in Greece, all at very different crossroads in their lives. When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, their academic project spirals into a high-stakes international conspiracy.
Hugh Laurie (House, The Night Manager) will play Neville, a British professor who genuinely loves archaeology and is determined to uphold the traditions of a profession he sees as slowly dying out. He views himself as an inspiring mentor to everyone working at the dig, whether they asked for it or not.
The pilot episode has been co-written by Amy Poehler and Mike Schur, with J. Philbin (Only Murders in the Building) also on board as a writer. Schur and Poehler executive produce alongside Morgan Sackett, director Dean Holland, Dave Becky and David Miner for 3 Arts, Sharon Jackson for Ocean Avenue, and Kate Arend and Jordan Grief for Poehler’s Paper Kite. Author Kate Myers serves as a co-executive producer.
The comedy is currently gearing up for production and comes from Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group.
Laurie’s career has famously spanned both comedy and drama, from A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster through to Veep, Avenue 5, House and The Night Manager. He has earned ten Emmy nominations to date, alongside three Golden Globes and two SAG Awards. His recent and upcoming projects include Apple TV thriller The Wanted Man, Season 3 of Tehran, and voicing Albus Dumbledore in Audible’s new Harry Potter audiobook series.
At the moment, ‘Dig’ does not yet have a confirmed UK broadcaster. While Peacock shows often find a home on Sky in the UK, due to NBCUniversal and Sky both being owned by Comcast, that is not guaranteed, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
