ITV has officially started filming its new six-part police procedural ‘Winter’, with production now underway in Bristol and Belgium. The series stars Richard Armitage and Annabel Scholey in the lead roles, and ITV has also confirmed a substantial wave of additional casting.
In ‘Winter’, Armitage plays Dr Ethan Winter, an unconventional forensic pathologist whose razor-sharp intellect and willingness to bend the rules make him a vital asset in solving some of the most complex murder cases. His analytical brilliance pairs with DI Lauren Bell, played by Scholey, a meticulous and no-nonsense detective equally driven by the pursuit of justice. Together, their contrasting approaches form a formidable partnership at the heart of the series.
Joining Armitage and Scholey in the cast are (pictured above) Jamie Kenna (House of the Dragon, Brassic), Carlotta Banat (Heads of State, 3 Body Problem), Josh Barrow (Vera, Dear England), Adwoa Akoto (The Sandman, Surface), Jay Taylor (Manhunt, Ten Percent), Rishi Rian (Ridley, Damaged), Deirdre Mullins (Bad Sisters, The Couple Next Door), Ellis Elijah (Mammoth) and Evie Coles (The Lady Grace Mysteries).
Each episode of ‘Winter’ will feature a self-contained murder investigation, alongside a longer-running personal storyline centred on the unsolved murder of someone close to Winter. That case continues to haunt him, driving an unofficial investigation that runs beneath the surface of the series.
The drama is produced by Eagle Eye Drama, co-produced with MASTERPIECE, and made in association with ITV Studios and Happy Duck Films. Direction comes from Dries Vos and Kaat Beels, with Matt Baker producing. The adaptation is written by David Allison and Mark Greig.
The series is based on the French hit Balthazar and will air on ITV and STV, with streaming available via ITVX and STV Player. In the US, the show will be broadcast and streamed by PBS under the MASTERPIECE banner.
