Prime Video has revealed a substantial new wave of casting for ‘God of War’, adding several fan-favourite characters from the hit PlayStation franchise as the upcoming live-action series continues to take shape.
The adaptation, based on the massively popular mythology-themed video game, has already landed a two-season order and is currently in pre-production in Vancouver. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are producing in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
Among the new additions is Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), who will play Odin, the All-Father. Rather than a physically imposing god, this version of Odin is defined by intellect, paranoia, and ruthless manipulation. A relentless seeker of knowledge, he will do anything to prevent Ragnarök, positioning him as a central antagonist to Kratos.
Also joining the cast is Alastair Duncan (Taggart), who will portray Mimir. Duncan reprises a role he previously voiced in the God of War and God of War Ragnarök games. Mimir is a quick-witted intellectual from Celtic lands who once served as Odin’s advisor before being banished and imprisoned within a tree. Now cut off from the world, he seeks atonement for the dark acts he committed in Odin’s name.
Jeff Gulka (The X-Files) has been cast as Sindri, a renowned dwarven blacksmith whose finely crafted weapons are sought across the realms. Helpful, anxious, and intensely germaphobic, Sindri is the complete opposite of his foul-mouthed brother and business partner, Brok.
That brother, Brok, will be played by Danny Woodburn (The Witcher). A legendary blacksmith with a gift for creative profanity, Brok is brash, irreverent, and alienated from his community after helping to forge a devastating super-weapon. Gamers will recognise him as one of the franchise’s most beloved supporting characters.
The expanding cast joins previously announced actors Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy) as Kratos, Max Parker (The Peripheral) as Heimdall, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Trapped) as Thor.
The series is being overseen by Ronald D. Moore (Outlander), who serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer, with Frederick E.O. Toye (Sh?gun, Fallout) directing the first two episodes.
‘God of War’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Prime Video in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
