The BBC has released the first trailer for ‘The Walsh Sisters’, a new six-part drama inspired by the hugely popular novels of Marian Keyes. Chaotic, dysfunctional but deeply loveable, the Walsh family are heading to BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this month.
The series centres on the five Walsh sisters and their parents, a devout mother and a permanently bemused father, all living in Dublin. Drawn from characters across Marian Keyes’ bestselling books, the drama explores the highs and lows of sisterhood, love, grief, addiction and family life, all held together by shared history, old wounds and an enduring love of power ballads.
Starring as the Walsh sisters are Caroline Menton (Oddity) as Rachel, Louisa Harland (Renegade Nell) as Anna, Danielle Galligan (House of Guinness) as Claire, Ma?ire?ad Tyers (Extraordinary) as Helen and Stefanie Preissner (Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope) as Maggie. Aidan Quinn (Practical Magic) plays Daddy Walsh, with Carrie Crowley (The Quiet Girl) as Mammy Walsh. Marian Keyes also serves as an executive producer on the series.
The drama was commissioned by RTÉ and is directed by Ian FitzGibbon (Hullraisers, Moone Boy). It is produced by Cuba Pictures and Metropolitan Films International in association with the BBC and Screen Ireland, with Cineflix Rights handling international distribution.
Stefanie Preissner adapted the novels for television and led the writing team, penning four episodes, with Kefi Chadwick (Rivals, Death in Paradise) contributing two further episodes. The story draws on characters from some of Marian Keyes’ best-known novels, including Rachel’s Holiday and Anybody Out There, from an author whose books have sold more than 39 million copies worldwide and been translated into 36 languages.
‘The Walsh Sisters’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK later in February 2026.
