‘The Lords Day’ is heading to Netflix, with Damson Idris (F1, Snowfall) set to star in and executive produce the new six-part thriller from Bad Wolf, based on the novel by Michael Dobbs (House of Cards).
Set against the backdrop of the State Opening of Parliament, ‘The Lords’ Day’ follows British spy Harry Jones, who finds himself trapped inside the Palace of Westminster during a lockdown as a hostage siege begins to spiral. With loyalties tested and the threat closing in, the series promises a tense, fast-paced action thriller set right at the centre of British power. And, in a nice extra wrinkle from the synopsis, Harry may be exactly the man to save the government from disaster… if he was not also a convicted traitor.
That setup alone feels like a very fun hook. A political siege thriller in one of the most recognisable buildings in the UK already has plenty of tension built in, and putting Idris in the middle of it gives the whole thing some serious weight. He has steadily built a reputation for intense, charismatic lead performances, so this feels like a strong fit.
Behind the camera, the project has a pretty stacked creative team too. Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (Spooks, Humans, Better) serve as lead writers and executive producers, whilst Ben Chanan (The Capture, The Missing) directs and also executive produces. Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch executive produce for Bad Wolf, the Cardiff-based company behind shows including ‘Industry’, ‘His Dark Materials’, ‘I Hate Suzie’, ‘Red Eye’, and the current era of ‘Doctor Who’.
Production on ‘The Lords’ Day’ begins in the UK this year, with the series running for six episodes.
Netflix has not yet announced any additional casting, but there is plenty of room for this one to build out an interesting ensemble around Idris. With a House of Lords setting, a hostage crisis, and a lead character who sounds like he may be both hero and liability at the same time, this has the makings of a stylish British thriller worth keeping an eye on.
‘The Lords Day’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Netflix in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
