CBS has officially ordered another expansion of the ever-growing NCIS universe, with ‘NCIS’ getting a brand new New York-set spinoff led by LL Cool J (NCIS: Los Angeles) and Scott Caan (Hawaii Five-0).
Titled ‘NCIS: New York‘, the new series brings LL Cool J back as fan-favourite agent Sam Hanna, who heads home to New York City and joins the local field office. There, he’ll partner with a new “roguish” agent played by Scott Caan, as the pair help lead a team tackling high-stakes cases in one of the most important cities and ports in the world.
It’s a pretty major surprise reveal from CBS, especially as the NCIS franchise already has a packed line-up, but bringing Sam Hanna back into the fold gives this one an instant connection to the wider universe. LL Cool J, of course, played the character across all 14 seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles, and more recently popped back up in the franchise via NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i.
Behind the scenes, the pilot comes from R. Scott Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles, The Pitt), who reunites with LL Cool J after serving as showrunner on NCIS: Los Angeles for seven seasons and writing across the full run of that show. Byron Balasco (Kingdom) is onboard as showrunner for the new series.
CBS has slotted ‘NCIS: New York’ into its Tuesday night line-up in the US, airing between ‘NCIS’ and ‘NCIS: Origins’, which should give the new drama a strong launchpad this autumn. NCIS: Sydney is then set to join the line-up in midseason, replacing Origins in that slot.
For fans who don’t want to wait until autumn, LL Cool J will also appear in two upcoming episodes of NCIS in the US on Monday, 21st April 2026, and Monday, 28th April 2026.
‘NCIS: New York‘ does not yet have a UK broadcaster or premiere date. We’ll let you know when that changes. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
