BBC Drops New Trailer For ‘The Split Up’ Ahead Of September Premiere

by Dave Elliott

The BBC has unveiled a new trailer for The Split Up, a six-part legal drama from the makers of ‘The Split’, which arrives on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this month.

Moving the franchise to Manchester, ‘The Split Up’ introduces the Kishans, a British South Asian family at the heart of Kishan Law, a powerhouse firm handling the messy, expensive divorces of the city’s elite. At the centre is Aria Kishan, played by Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), a rising star poised to take over the family business from her father Dhruv, played by Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten).

That handover is anything but straightforward. The family is still grieving the recent death of Aria’s mother, and Dhruv is beginning to question whether his daughter is ready, or should even be expected, to take on the firm by herself.

As if running one of Manchester’s leading divorce practices wasn’t enough to deal with, Aria is also preparing to marry her long-term partner Neal, played by Danny Ashok (Dinosaur). Things get even more complicated when former secret flame Luke, played by Dimitri Leonidas (Those About To Die), unexpectedly joins Kishan Law. Between office politics, family grief and unresolved romantic history, it looks like Aria will have rather a lot on her plate.

Her siblings Maya and Kav are played by Aysha Kala (Virdee) and Arian Nik (Film Club), with the wider cast also including Mawaan Rizwan (Juice), Sindhu Vee (Matilda the Musical), Shalini Peiris (The White Lotus) and Tom Forbes (Queenie). The legal firm’s high-profile clients bring in a strong guest cast too, including Lenny Henry (Three Little Birds), Jane Horrocks (Bloods) and Jameela Jamil (The Good Place).

The story and characters are created by Ursula Rani Sarma (Delicious), based on ‘The Split’, created by Abi Morgan (Eric). The series is produced by SISTER Pictures in association with Morgan’s Little Chick, with Shamim Sarif (YOU) and Khurrum M Sultan (Vera) directing.

The BBC will make all six episodes available on iPlayer from launch, while BBC One will broadcast episodes at 9pm on Sundays and Mondays.

The Split Up‘ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 20th September 2026 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
