Things are about to get even messier in Rutshire, as Disney+ has announced ‘Rivals‘ Season 2 will return with its remaining six episodes this November, kicking things off with a three-episode drop in the UK and internationally.
The second season of ‘Rivals’ took a mid-season break after its first six episodes, leaving viewers with tragedy, scandal and betrayal aplenty. Now, Disney+ has confirmed the remaining six episodes are on the way, alongside a batch of new first-look images, key art and a teaser trailer.
Picking up after the mid-season finale, Tony Baddingham and Declan O’Hara’s battle for control of the Cotswolds reaches fever pitch, while Rupert Campbell-Black is forced to confront his own personal demons.
Meanwhile, Taggie O’Hara finds herself caught in the middle of the increasingly frantic franchise war and must decide whether she has the courage to follow her heart. Around them, ambitions collide, secrets begin to surface and alliances start falling apart.
The remaining episodes will also bring plenty of suitably extravagant Rutshire events, including hedonistic parties, Bonfire Night chaos, the Hampshire Hunt Ball and a turbulent Christmas. Because apparently these people didn’t already have enough opportunities to make spectacularly bad decisions.
Returning for the second half of the season are David Tennant (‘Doctor Who’, ‘The Thursday Murder Club’) as Lord Tony Baddingham, Alex Hassell (‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’, ‘The Boys’) as Rupert Campbell-Black, Aidan Turner (‘Poldark’, ‘The Suspect’) as Declan O’Hara, Nafessa Williams (‘Black Lightning’, ‘Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody’) as Cameron Cook and Bella Maclean (‘Sex Education’, ‘London Tide’) as Taggie O’Hara.
They are joined once again by Katherine Parkinson (‘Humans’, ‘Here We Go’) as Lizzie Vereker, Danny Dyer (‘EastEnders’, ‘The Football Factory’) as Freddie Jones, Victoria Smurfit (‘Bloodlands’, ‘Once Upon A Time’) as Maud O’Hara, Claire Rushbrook (‘Sherwood’, ‘Ali and Ava’) as Lady Monica Baddingham and Emily Atack (‘The Emily Atack Show’, ‘The Inbetweeners’) as Sarah Stratton, amongst the wider ensemble.
There are also some new faces joining the chaos. Rachael Stirling (‘Believe Me’, ‘Detectorists’) arrives as Araminta Pemberton, Lady Monica Baddingham’s vampish younger sister, while Rupert Evans (‘Gone’, ‘The Man In The High Castle’) plays erudite headmaster David Hawkley. Santiago Cabrera (‘Big Little Lies’, ‘Star Trek: Picard’) joins as Argentinian polo legend Alejandro Mendoza.
Guest stars Hayley Atwell (‘Mission Impossible’, ‘Agent Carter’) and Rupert Everett (‘Napoleon’, ‘My Policeman’) also return as Helen Gordon and Malise Gordon.
Based on Dame Jilly Cooper’s bestselling Rutshire Chronicles, ‘Rivals’ is produced by Happy Prince, part of ITV Studios. Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Alexander Lamb, Felicity Blunt, Elliot Hegarty, Laura Wade and Dame Jilly Cooper executive produce, with Eliza Mellor returning as series producer.
The writing team includes Dominic Treadwell-Collins, Laura Wade, Sophie Goodhart, Sam Hoare, Mimi Hare, Clare Naylor, Sorcha Kurien-Walsh and Dare Aiyegbayo, with Elliot Hegarty, Jamie J Johnson and Dee Koppang O’Leary directing.
The first six episodes of ‘Rivals’ Season 2, along with the whole of Season 1, are available to stream now on Disney+.
