Netflix Releases Trailer, Air Date & Key Art For Movie Adaptation Of Manga Series ‘Death Note’

by Dave Elliott

Netflix just dropped a really interesting looking trailer and poster for their upcoming live-action movie adaptation of the hugely popular Manga series Death Note, which streams onto the service from the 25th August 2017 worldwide.

Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, ‘Death Note’ follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realising it holds within it a great power. If the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

The Netflix original film is directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You’re Next) and stars Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Paul Nakauchi (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Shea Whigham (American Hustle) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as the voice of Ryuk… Because if you want a creepy voiceover, Willem Dafoe is the person you call!

If you want to get ahead, and can’t wait till the 25th August, you can stream the anime version of the series right now on Netflix. They also released this poster featuring the creepy looking “Shinigami”, “Ryuk”.

If you’d like a bit more background on the making of the movie, Netflix helpfully released this little featurette too!

Death Note‘ streams onto Netflix worldwide from the 25th August 2017.
