Syfy US Commissions ‘Resident Alien’ Series Based On Dark Horse Comic Starring Alan Tudyk

US network Syfy has handed out a series order to Resident Alien, an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book, with Alan Tudyk set to lead the cast.

Described as a twisted and comedic fish-out-of-water story, the show follows an alien who crash-lands on Earth and assumes the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor named Harry Vanderspiegle (Tudyk), only to face the moral quandary of whether human beings are actually worth saving.

Tudyk is, of course, the much loved star of ‘Firefly’ where he played pilot Hoban “Wash” Washburne. Since the tragic demise of that series, he has starred in films such as ‘Rogue One’, ‘Trumbo’, and ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’, along with tv series such as ‘Powerless’, ‘The Tick’ and DC Universe’s upcoming ‘Doom Patrol’. He has also provided voices for a host of video games and animated shows such as ‘Family Guy’, ‘Rick and Morty’, ‘Adventure Time’, ‘Halo 3’, ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’, ‘Zootopia’, ‘Big Hero 6’ and ‘Moana’. Additionally, he wrote, directed and starred in (along with ‘Firefly’s captain tight pants, Nathan Fillion) the brilliant web series ‘Con Man’, loosely based on his experiences on the comic-con circuit.

Alongside Tudyk, the series will star Sara Tomko (‘Once Upon A Time’), Corey Reynolds (‘The Closer’), Alice Wetterlund (‘People of Earth’) and Levi Fiehler (‘Mars’).

Syfy US has yet to set a premiere date for Resident Alien, so it is way too early for a UK pick up. We should also mention, just because the series comes from Syfy US, that does not mean it will air on Syfy UK. It could easily end up on any UK channel or streaming service. The show will begin filming this summer in Vancouver. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
