E4 Sets A May Premiere Date (Finally!) For ‘Gotham’s 5th & Final Season

After a long wait, E4 has finally set a date for the final season of Gotham this May.

‘Gotham’ follows the story of the crime-ridden city prior to the arrival of the Dark Knight. The latest season has seen a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) begins to assume responsibility for the city’s well-being. With the help of his ever-faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) and quiet support of Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk), he will step into this role, all while building up his public persona of the carefree socialite to avoid any suspicion among Gotham’s citizens.

If you remember back, Season 4 began with the Court of Owls decimated, and the Tetch virus having crippled the city. This lead to every (surviving) villain in Gotham’s underworld jockeying for power, leaving Jim Gordon and the GCPD with their hands full. By the end of that season, Selina Kyle was in hospital with suspected spinal damage, and Butch had been cured of his Solomon Grundy persona by Hugo Strange and Penguin… Only for Penguin to kill him in front of Tabitha as revenge for Tabitha killing his mother.

Meanwhile, Ra’s al Ghul had been trying to blow up Gotham, only to be stopped by Barbara, who drives Ghul’s own knife into his chest, but makes sure that Bruce’s hand is on the hilt so that it kills Ra’s. However, Ra’s bombs detonate, blowing up all the bridges leading out of Gotham, cutting the city off from the mainland. With Gotham descending into “No Man’s Land” lawlessness, Gordon, Bullock, and Lucius Fox, along with a number of GCPD officers decide to stay and try and save the city. This leads Bruce to decide to embrace his destiny as Gotham’s protector. Alfred wants to stay as well, but Bruce sends him to keep an eye on Selina and watch over her recovery. It ends with Gordon and Bruce meeting on top the GCPD where Gordon shines a spotlight into the night sky, giving hope to the people of Gotham.

As we head into Season 5, Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne face the chaos Gotham City has become. Their mission to keep the city safe becomes more complicated as the villains who survived the attack on the city begin to resurface and claim various territories. Meanwhile, Selina Kyle grapples with how to deal with her uncertain future…

Gotham‘ Season 5 premieres Sunday 12th May at 9pm on E4 in the UK.
