Geektown Radio: Episode 478: ‘Tron: Ares’, ‘Down Cemetery Road’, ‘Chad Powers’, and ‘Robin Hood’

Domingos from Hollywood News Source joins Dave to chat TV & Film

by Dave Elliott

It’s time for another packed episode of Geektown Radio, and this week, Dave is joined by Domingos to chat all things TV, film, and gaming. From neon-drenched sci-fi worlds to gritty reimaginings of British legends, the pair dive into four of the week’s biggest releases — ‘Tron: Ares’, ‘Down Cemetery Road, Chad Powers, and Robin Hood — alongside all the latest news from the world of entertainment.

‘Tron: Ares’

Domingos kicks things off with the long-awaited return to the grid in ‘Tron: Ares’, the third chapter of the cult sci-fi franchise that began in 1982. This time, the story steps out of the digital world and into the real one, as Julian Dillinger (played by Evan Peters (Dahmer, Mare of Easttown)) creates the ultimate program, Ares (Jared Leto (Morbius, Blade Runner 2049)), for military use.
The film dazzles with stunning visuals, high-octane light cycle chases, and a pulsing soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails. There are familiar faces too, including Gillian Anderson (Sex Education, The X-Files), and Jeff Bridges’ original character Kevin Flynn. Critics may be divided, but audiences are loving it — classic Tron energy in a bold new era.

‘The Woman in Cabin 10’

Also on Domingos’ watchlist is ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’, a twisty Netflix thriller starring Keira Knightley (Atonement, Black Doves) as a travel journalist who witnesses a possible murder aboard a luxury yacht. Featuring Guy Pearce, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Hannah Waddingham, and David Morrissey, it’s a sharp adaptation of Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel that blends mystery, paranoia, and beautiful production design. The film’s success has already sparked talk of a sequel, and marks a strong return to form for Knightley.

‘Chad Powers’

Over on Disney+/Hulu, ‘Chad Powers’ sees Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man) flex both his comedic and dramatic muscles as a disgraced American football star forced to disguise himself as a new player after a spectacular career meltdown. Inspired by an Eli Manning sketch, the show balances humour with heart, exploring redemption and identity with the energy of Ted Lasso meets Mrs. Doubtfire. It’s got strong support from Steve Zahn (Treme), Clayne Crawford (Lethal Weapon), and more — one of Hulu’s most charming surprises of the year.

‘Down Cemetery Road’

Dave heads to Apple TV+ for ‘Down Cemetery Road’, adapted from Slow Horses author Mick Herron’s novel and developed by the same team behind that hit. Emma Thompson (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) stars as private investigator Zoe Burnham, hired by Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Affair) to find a missing girl after a mysterious house explosion. With Adeel Akhtar and Darren Boyd adding shady government intrigue, the series mixes wry British humour with political paranoia — another stylish, slow-burn thriller from Herron’s world.

‘Robin Hood’

Finally, Dave rounds off with MGM+’s grounded take on ‘Robin Hood’, shifting the timeline to the reign of King Henry II. This version trades mythic heroics for political realism, exploring tensions between Saxons and Normans in post-conquest England. Jack Patten and Lauren McQueen (The Mill, Hollyoaks) shine as Rob and Marian, joined by Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, The Dreamer) as Eleanor of Aquitaine and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Time) as a morally complex Sheriff of Nottingham. Think Vikings meets Outlander — earthy, dramatic, and beautifully shot.
