ITV has revealed the lead cast for ‘Saviour’, a new six-part legal thriller coming to the broadcaster, STV and ITVX. The drama stars Anjli Mohindra (Fear, Get Millie Black, The Red King), Shaun Parkes (Death by Lightning, The Suspect, Mangrove) and Aidan Gillen (Mayor of Kingstown, Game of Thrones, Kin) in a tense, contemporary story set inside the criminal justice system.
Produced by Parti Productions and Drama Republic, ‘Saviour’ is written by criminal barrister and novelist Imran Mahmood, with executive producers Peter Moffat and Nisha Parti. The series has been commissioned by ITV’s Director of Drama Polly Hill and will air on ITV and STV, with streaming via ITVX and STV Player.
The drama follows Ben, played by Archie Fisher (Death by Lightning, Steve, Boarders), who becomes involved in a fatal incident after borrowing his father’s police uniform for a costume party. Called in to defend him is rising criminal defence solicitor Indy Sangar, played by Anjli Mohindra, newly promoted to Higher Rights of Audience at the Old Bailey.
As Indy fights to clear Ben of a murder charge, she finds herself navigating police corruption, racial politics, media pressure and a justice system stacked against her. Complicating matters further is the fact that her client is hiding secrets, while her own personal life begins to unravel in ways that threaten both her career and her family.
Standing opposite Indy is Detective Inspector Jon Creasy, played by Shaun Parkes, a relentless investigator determined to uncover the truth. He is not prepared to be influenced by Eddie, played by Aidan Gillen, his colleague and Ben’s father, who will go to extreme lengths to protect his son.
The supporting cast includes Abhin Galeya (Grace, Unforgotten, Maternal) as Indy’s husband Dev Sangar, Tobias Jowett (William Tell, Virdee, Gassed Up) as Sai Bajwa, Nethra Tilakumara (Tell Me Everything, Flatmates, So Awkward) as Nita Sangar, Angus Wright (Bank of Dave, Mary & George, Dreaming Whilst Black) as Lionel Knight, Claire Goose (Silverpoint, The Coroner) as Romy, Adjani Salmon (Dreaming Whilst Black, Doctor Who, Chivalry) as Mac, Campbell Wallace (Midas Man, G’wed, Anne) as Bing, and Precious Wuru Alabi (Boiling Point) as Xenia Cruz.
Filming is taking place in Liverpool, with the series produced by Matthew Patnick and directed by Leanne Welham and Annetta Laufer. Additional episodes are written by Frances Poletti and Namsi Khan.
‘Saviour’ asks a central, unsettling question: how far would you go to protect the people you love?
‘Saviour’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on ITV in the UK. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
