Aimee Lou Wood & David Morrissey Reunite For ‘Daddy Issues’ Third & Final Series

by Dave Elliott

Daddy Issues is growing into a threenager, as the BBC confirms that Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) will reunite for a third and final series of the hit comedy.

Created and written by Danielle Ward (Brassic), the six-part final run will return to BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, with filming once again taking place in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The comedy follows Gemma, played by Aimee Lou Wood, as she navigates motherhood with assistance, or occasionally hindrance, from her hapless father Malcolm, played by David Morrissey.

They are joined by Gemma’s best friend Cherry, played by Taj Atwal (Line of Duty), salon boss Rita, played by Sarah Hadland (Miranda), sister Catherine, played by Sharon Rooney (Barbie), and Malcolm’s best friend Derek, played by David Fynn (School of Rock).

Series three picks up 18 months after the events of the second series. Baby Sadie is now attending nursery, Gemma has been promoted at the salon, and Malcolm has invested in a fancy new washing machine to optimise the laundry. Things finally appear to have settled into something resembling a normal routine for the Moscrip family.

With life seemingly on an even keel, Gemma begins to wonder whether there might finally be room for romance. Unfortunately, “old Gemma” is never far away, and one romantic encounter quickly escalates into an enormous pile of problems.

With nowhere else to turn, she once again seeks help from Malcolm, who might finally have become the responsible grown-up she always believed he could be. Maybe.

“I’m so happy to be back with David and the brilliant Daddy Issues cast for one final time. Gemma and Malcolm are one of the funniest and sweetest comedy double acts on TV, and I’ve loved being a part of it,” commented Aimee Lou Wood.

“I love doing Daddy Issues so much, such a great cast and crew! So I’m delighted to be coming back to have more adventures with Gemma, Malcolm and the gang!” added David Morrissey.

Writer Danielle Ward said: “I’m thrilled we’re getting to make a third and final series of Daddy Issues. The Moscrips have a special part in my heart and I’ll be forever grateful to Aimee and David for bringing them to life in such a brilliantly funny way.”

The renewal comes after ‘Daddy Issues’ became BBC Three’s biggest comedy launch since the beginning of 2022, attracting 1.6 million viewers across its first 28 days. Series two averaged 1.5 million viewers across the same period, making it BBC Three’s most-watched scripted title of 2025.

“As Daddy Issues becomes a threenager, it’s been great seeing audiences take Gemma and Malcolm to their hearts. Danielle has created a brilliantly sharp, fearless comedy and we can’t wait to see the Moscrips take the next, slightly wobbly steps in life with a toddler,” commented Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy.

Phil Gilbert, executive producer at Fudge Park, added: “Danielle’s series three scripts are total firecrackers – acerbic but sweet, surreal but always relatable, dark round the edges but radiating with joy from the centre. I can’t wait for Aimee and David to bring their one-of-a-kind chemistry to these stories and welcome back our knockout supporting cast who help make Daddy Issues such a ridiculously fun world to spend time in.”

‘Daddy Issues’ is produced by Fudge Park Productions for BBC iPlayer and BBC Three. George Kane (How to Get to Heaven from Belfast) directs the final series, with Andrew Harvey (Avoidance) serving as producer.

The executive producers are Phil Gilbert for Fudge Park Productions, alongside Aimee Lou Wood, David Morrissey, Danielle Ward and Damon Beesley. Seb Barwell is the commissioner for the BBC, while Fremantle is handling global sales.

The BBC has not yet announced a premiere date for the third and final series. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
