The hunt for the missing millions continues, as critically-acclaimed factual drama ‘The Gold‘ returns this June for a brand-new six-part season on BBC One and iPlayer.
Inspired by the true story and long-standing theories surrounding the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery, which saw £26 million worth of gold bullion vanish without a trace, the series dives deeper into one of the most notorious cases in British criminal history. While the first season followed the immediate fallout of the heist, season two explores what happened to the other half of the gold that was never recovered.
Created by Neil Forsyth (Guilt, Eric, Ernie & Me), the second season once again blends real-world drama and speculation with gripping storytelling, as the Brink’s-Mat Task Force embarks on a high-stakes international investigation. What begins as a hunt for stolen gold evolves into a complex web of global money laundering and organised crime, pushing the Metropolitan Police to the limits of their resources in what became the longest and most expensive investigation in the force’s history.
A new trailer teases the unfolding mystery and growing international stakes, and offers a first look at the returning Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), who reprises his role as Kenneth Noye, appearing from episode three onwards.
Joining Lowden for the second outing are returning cast members Hugh Bonneville (Brian Boyce), Charlotte Spencer (Nicki Jennings), Emun Elliott (Tony Brightwell), Tom Cullen (John Palmer), Stefanie Martini (Marnie Palmer), and Sam Spruell (Charlie Miller). Also back are Peter Davison (Assistant Commissioner Gordon Stewart), Amanda Drew (CS Cath McClean), Silas Carson (Harry Bowman), and James Nelson-Joyce (Brian Reader).
New faces for series two include Tom Hughes (The English, Victoria), Stephen Campbell Moore (Masters of the Air, Criminal Record), Joshua McGuire (Cheaters, Blitz), Tamsin Topolski (The Madness, Slow Horses), Joshua Samuels (Saltburn, Sexy Beast), Rochelle Neil (Three Little Birds, The Nevers), Antonia Desplat (Shantaram, Modi), Lorna Brown (The Witcher, Vampire Academy), Thomas Coombes (Baby Reindeer, Boiling Point), Sean Teale (Doctor Odyssey, Rosaline), and Olivia Grant (Stardust, All the Money in the World).
The Gold first aired in February 2023 and drew in 8.7 million viewers for its premiere episode, marking it as one of the BBC’s most successful drama launches in recent years.
‘The Gold‘ Season 2 premieres Sunday, 8th June 2025 on BBC One, with all episodes available to stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
