Apple TV+ has unveiled the first images from ‘Down Cemetery Road’, a gripping new thriller adapted from Mick Herron’s “Zöe Boehm” book series. The eight-episode series stars Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) as Oxford private investigator Zoë Boehm, alongside Ruth Wilson (Luther, His Dark Materials) as Sarah Tucker, a neighbour drawn into a mystery that quickly spirals out of control.
When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the chaos, Sarah (Wilson) becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth. She enlists Zoë (Thompson), a struggling private investigator, to help find the missing child. Their search soon pulls them into a complex conspiracy where people long thought dead are still alive, and the living are in growing danger.

This marks Apple TV+’s second collaboration with Herron, whose “Slough House” books are the basis for the acclaimed espionage drama ‘Slow Horses’, starring Gary Oldman. Like ‘Slow Horses,’ ‘Down Cemetery Road’ promises Herron’s signature blend of sharp humour, biting social commentary, and twisty plotting. In fact, the project is being led by Morwenna Banks (Slow Horses, Funny Woman), who also serves as executive producer alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Tom Nash, Emma Thompson, and Herron himself.
“‘Down Cemetery Road’ has all the hallmarks of Mick Herron’s funny and acerbic writing, and I’m delighted we will be bringing it to life for Apple TV+ with such a stellar cast,” said Jay Hunt, Creative Director, Europe, Apple TV+. “Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson will make it an unmissable companion piece for ‘Slow Horses’ on our service.”

The “Zöe Boehm” novels are a four-book series following the witty and tenacious Oxford-based private investigator. Herron’s storytelling here is smaller in scale than the globe-trotting spy world of “Slough House,” but equally darkly funny and layered with moral complexity, making ‘Down Cemetery Road’ an ideal starting point for introducing Boehm to a wider audience.
The series is produced by 60Forty Films and directed by Natalie Bailey (Bay of Fires, Run), who serves as lead director.
‘Down Cemetery Road’ joins Apple’s growing slate of British drama, including the multi-BAFTA-nominated ‘Slow Horses’, which has been renewed through Season 7, with its fifth season set to premiere on Tuesday, 24th September 2025.
‘Down Cemetery Road’ premieres Wednesday, 29th October 2025, on Apple TV+, with the first two episodes available at launch, followed by new episodes every Wednesday.
