Marvel Zombies, The Dark Healer, The Tomorrow Job & Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown – Geektown Radio Episode 475

Darryl from Hollywood North News joins Dave to chat TV, film and video games

by Dave Elliott

We’re back with another episode of the Geektown Radio podcast! This week I’m joined once again by Darryl from Hollywood North News as we jump from Marvel’s zombie apocalypse to fantasy audiobooks, indie sci fi heists, and a bold new Star Trek game. Alongside all that, we cover the latest TV and film news, renewals, cancellations, and upcoming UK TV highlights.

What We’ve Been Watching

Darryl has been working his way through the fantasy audiobook series ‘The Dark Healer’ by Alex Toxic and Nadya Lee, praising its mix of magic clans and RPG style progression: “It’s quite funny. You can see what’s gonna happen a mile away, but it’s still fun to get there. Yes, I’ve been enjoying that and working my way through the books slowly.” He also watched indie time bending thriller ‘The Tomorrow Job’ and the return of High Potential, plus revisited Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Meanwhile, Dave dived into the blood spattered animated miniseries Marvel Zombies, checked out the new season of Slow Horses, and kept up with Peacemaker. But the big four this week are…

Marvel Zombies

Dave blitzed through all four episodes of Disney+’s ‘Marvel Zombies’, spun out of the What If…? anthology. “Across the four episodes, pretty much every character gets killed in some horrendous way,” he laughed. The story begins with Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, and Riri Williams, and along the way they encounter a whole range of Marvel heroes, some still alive and some undead. That includes Wanda, Spider Man, and Ant Man, plus a new mash up character called Blade Knight. It is violent, fast paced, and surprisingly solid: “If you like your zombies and you like Marvel, it’s a good four episode animated mashup.”

The Dark Healer (Book Review)

A rare book review on the show this week, as Darryl talked about the ‘The Dark Healer’ series by Alex Toxic and Nadya Lee. It follows Max Richter, head of a necromancer clan, who wakes after a thousand year sleep to find his lineage erased from history and his powers diminished. As Darryl explained, “We are following him as he seeks to find out what happened, why his clan doesn’t seem to exist anymore. It’s a fun book. It has the normal things of people underrating him… but it’s still fun to get there.” With eleven installments available, it is a progression style fantasy that should appeal to fans of epic sagas and RPG mechanics.

The Tomorrow Job

Darryl also checked out indie sci fi heist flick ‘The Tomorrow Job’, where a crew of thieves use a drug to project their minds 24 hours into the future to plan robberies. “Everything seems to be going well until it isn’t,” he said, praising its clever writing despite a low budget. He pointed out that if it had been a big budget blockbuster, there would probably have been a big Terminator 2 style action sequence at that moment, but instead, because they could not afford that, the film takes a different path where the crew sit down and talk to the bad guys instead. With its mix of Inception style concepts and Oceans 11 energy, it is worth a look for fans of inventive indie sci fi.

Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown

Finally, Dave covered the trailer for upcoming game ‘Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown’, which lets players take command of Voyager and alter key moments from the series. “It’s a what if version of Star Trek Voyager, which I think is a really interesting idea,” he said. Choices include whether or not to save the infamous Tuvix, as well as managing ship resources in a roguelike journey through the Delta Quadrant. For Trekkies, it looks like a chance to reimagine Voyager’s fate: “It’s interesting being able to take control and go, no, actually we’ll try it the other way.” Coming to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, it is one to watch in 2026.
