Netflix is packing another suitcase for ‘The Four Seasons’, as the streamer has renewed the comedy for an eight-episode third season.
The news was announced live on stage by Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Scripted Series for the US and Canada, during a fireside chat at the BANFF World Media Festival.
The renewal follows another strong outing for the series, with Season 2 reaching the Top 10 in 56 countries after launching in May, and remaining in Netflix’s Global Top 10. The new season also helped push Season 1 back onto the chart, which is generally a decent sign that people have remembered they quite like watching famous middle-aged people go on emotionally complicated holidays together.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring a third season of The Four Seasons to life,” said co-creators and co-showrunners Tina Fey, Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. “Thank you to everyone who watched. Middle-aged people, LFG!”
Based on Alan Alda’s 1981 film of the same name, ‘The Four Seasons’ follows a group of lifelong friends whose regular holidays together become increasingly complicated as relationships shift, grief lingers, and everyone discovers that getting older does not necessarily make people any better at communicating.
Season 2 picked up after a difficult year for the group, with the friends continuing their vacation tradition, this time with a baby in tow. The latest run saw Kate, Jack, Anne, Danny, Claude, and Ginny travel from the Jersey Shore and upstate New York to Italy, as old wounds, new adventures, and personal blind spots bubbled back to the surface.
“It’s been a joy watching the chaotic, beautiful journey of these lifelong friends,” said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix Vice President of US Comedy. “Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield have a magical way of blending heart and sharp humor, making us feel like part of the inner circle. Audiences have fallen in love with these characters and this legendary cast’s electric chemistry. We’re thrilled to keep the vacation going for Season 3.”
The series stars Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, Erika Henningsen, with Colman Domingo. Season 2 guest stars included Steve Carell, Steven Pasquale, David Tennant, Toby Huss, Paula Pell, Janine Brito, Vernee Watson-Johnson, Alan Alda, Ashlyn Maddox, Azura Skye, and Julia Lester.
‘The Four Seasons’ is created, written, directed, and executive produced by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. David Miner, Eric Gurian and Jeff Richmond also executive produce, with Alan Alda and Marissa Bregman producing. The series is produced for Netflix by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, with Little Stranger, Inc. as the production company.
‘The Four Seasons’ Season 1 and Season 2 are available now on Netflix. Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date.
You’re right. I didn’t lie intentionally, but I did get it wrong after literally acknowledging the format. That’s on me.
