Traitors’ Miles Asteri, Frauds, Afterlife With Archie & Peaky Blinders | Geektown Radio 476

Dave is joined by The Traitors’ Miles Asteri to chat TV & Film news!

by Dave Elliott

This week on Geektown Radio, we’re joined by the delightfully deadly Miles Asteri, star of The Traitors Season 2, best known for “murdering” poor Diane with a glass of fizzy rosé. Miles might be one of the most charming traitors to ever poison someone on television, and he joins us to talk about life after the castle, his newfound fame, and, of course, the launch of Celebrity Traitors, which begins this week on BBC One.

“It’s really weird ’cause I get loads of free alcohol, and then when I buy a round of drinks, no one wants to take them off me. So it is working in my favor,” Miles laughs. “I promise it’s not poison!”

Between tales of cloaks and chalices, Miles reveals how he applied for the show on a whim, the problems with being a recruited Traitor rather than an original, and how he had to navigate the backstabbing with style. He also talks about his day job as a veterinary nurse, how his family handled watching him commit televised murder while in the middle of adopting a second child, and what life is like when you’re suddenly recognised as “the fizzy rosé guy.”

“I told my husband I was a Traitor, and that’s as far as he knew,” he says. “So he’s watching me and then looking at the TV going, ‘Does Diane drink this?’ and I’m like, you’ll have to watch it.”

With Celebrity Traitors kicking off this week, featuring names like Stephen Fry, Alan Carr, Charlotte Church, and Tom Daley, Miles gives his predictions for which celebs might have what it takes to be a convincing liar.

“Alan Carr or Paloma Faith could make great Traitors, but then that might be too predictable. Tom Daley would be brilliant though, he’s got that innocent face, and people would never suspect him!”

TV Reviews & Highlights

Before getting into the interview, Dave and Miles shared their current watches. Miles confessed to an “eclectic taste” ranging from Yellowjackets to Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and even Netflix’s animated ‘K-Pop: Demon Hunters’, which he’s now watched more than once.

“I put it on for my kids so I could work, and then I found my eyes wandering off… it’s actually really catchy!”

They also chatted about Thursday Murder Club, which Miles described as “perfect Sunday viewing… like Cluedo as a TV show.”

Dave, meanwhile, has been diving into ‘Scandal’ on Disney+, calling it an addictive “Shondaland masterpiece of red wine, popcorn and chaos,” and convincing Miles to add Dexter and How to Get Away With Murder to his binge list.

Frauds

Dave reviews the new ITV series Frauds, starring Suranne Jones (Vigil) and Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who) as former con artists teaming up for one last art heist.

“It’s like Thelma & Louise but with an art heist and terminal cancer,” Dave explains. “They’ve got this horribly toxic friendship, but it’s great fun to watch.”

Miles adds that he’s been watching Netflix’s ‘Love Con Revenge’, a true-crime spin-off featuring the woman from The Tinder Swindler.

“It’s nice to see someone who was a victim now helping others,” he says. “They’ve got this Cagney & Lacey situation going on.”

Afterlife With Archie

Over in the news section, Dave and Miles dive into the surreal announcement that Disney+ is developing a zombie horror adaptation of Afterlife With Archie.

“What’s with all the zombies?” Miles jokes. “Ever since 28 Days Later, I’ve been scarred for life, they run too fast!”

Dave explains that the series reimagines the Riverdale gang in a zombie apocalypse. “It’s Archie meets The Walking Dead,” he says, which feels only slightly stranger than the seven-season chaos Riverdale already delivered.

Peaky Blinders Returns

The pair also discussed the huge BBC news that Peaky Blinders is officially returning for two new seasons set in the 1950s.

“As a native Brummie, I wanted to love it,” Miles admits, “but the accents didn’t sit right with me.”

Dave notes the new series will shift focus to the next generation of Shelbys following the upcoming Netflix film The Immortal Man, which features Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby during the Blitz. Filming takes place at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham, Steven Knight’s new facility, marking a proper homecoming for the series.

  • Graham Norton signs on for three more seasons of The Graham Norton Show.
